Will mc28 crank fit mc18r5k crank cases ?

Sun Oct 05, 2014 10:36 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello folks

Can any kind soul please tell me if an mc28 crank will fit into mc18 r5k crank cases ?

One of my r5k big end crank pins has pitted slightly so Grampian say it is scrap and will not rebuild it for me unless I can supply a replacement centre web that has good condition main and big end pins.

I have the opportunity to buy a mc28 bottom end that has recently been rebuilt by SEP in Kegworth but I need to know if the mc28 crank will fit my mc18r5k crankcases? or would it be more sensible to use the healthy mc28 bottom end with my mc18r5k barrels/heads/carbs ect ?

Any opinions/info will be greatly appreciated!

cheers

Andy

An MC21/28 crank can be machined to fit an R5/6K.

I'm pretty sure you can use the bottom end with the MC18 top end. You may have to swap flywheel and pickups......also identify the neutral wire from the gear position sensor up to the MC18 wiring loom. Andy and others should be able to confirm what needs to be done
