Electrical gremlins M-Max box related

Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:26 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Had a earth leak on my MC18 thats been draining the battery flat in a few hours, discovered if i unplug the M-Max derestriction box it cures the problem. All the wires relating to the box seem fine so im assuming the box itself is at fault. The M-Max has a blue/white wire attached to the orange/blue wire coming from the cdi, it isnt spliced into the orange/blue wire but attached directly to the orange/blue wire and the other end of it taped up, is this correct or should it be spliced?

If this is correct then chances are the M-Max box is fooked so can i just dump the box and perform the wire splice as per instructions for the MC21? i understand the procedure is the same for the MC18 and MC21.

save the looms and connectors from the mmax and do the wire-splice.

The M-Max IS a wiresplice in a box, which makes me wonder how it can be causing the drain.

Cheers mojo thats confirmed the m-max box is a piece of crap.

Dave, Yeah thats what confused me, no doubt you know how the m-max connects by fitting inline in the reg/rec wiring so i can only assume the wiring inside the box has somehow broken up causing the leak.

Ive now done the wire splice and junked the m-max but yet to test ride the bike. The earth leak is now down to 0.3 volts rather than 12 so hopefully the next time i take the bike out i'll be riding it home and not in the back of the van Smile
