MC 21 SP running issues

Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:54 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All been out with Les on the no 2 bike today done 100 miles no problems at all, the second bike has M box deristricter and JHA cans {thank you} and pulls cleanly right through the rev range,I went out for a ride on the no 1 bike which starts and runs sweet as on both cylinders on low revs,as soon as you take off it goes down on the top cylinder, if you close the throttle it will on half throttle kick in on both and take off revving fine then start missing and holding back i have cleaned both carbs throughly, new plugs and both of the power valves look to be operating ok,the exhaust gets hot on idle ,any comments will gratefully be welcomed, thankyou, jonmac

Perhaps check the battery voltage?
I had a faulty ignition rotor pick-up once. Would produce the symptoms you`re getting. Try checking the insulation on the wiring to the pick-ups, they can chafe through where they run against the crank case.
The lower pick-up went on my bike. You could pull the insulation out of the plastic housing. Was letting moisture in.

Also check the coil's, I had a loose plug cap (i.e. it wasn't attached to the HT lead) once, same symptoms.

Hi,Sorted the problem, removed the carbs once more just to see if something obvious was staring me in the face, and on close examination with my best reading glasses on the left handcarbs main jet although it was not blocked it had furred up to a much smaller hole than in the right hand side, replaced the jet with a new one and hey presto its as sweet as,It just proved that just because i could see daylight through it i thought is was OK, and unclearly it was not, thankyou for your replies, jonmac
