MC21 dry clutch noise

Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:15 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I looked at an MC21 on Saturday that I'm likely to buy.

It's an SE with the dry clutch - my question is - when the clutch is pulled in there is a metallic cling cling cling (very mechanical sound). I realise dry clutchs are noisy, but does my description sound like a healthy clutch?

I was also surprised by the noise of my dry clutch when I first got my SP.
I went to Youtube, found a video of a dry clutch NSR with sound to compare. After seeing a couple of videos I felt much happier.

Thanks lads.

Found a couple of You Tube - don't know why I couldn't before. Sounds exactly the same. Phew!

Is it wrong to like the sound?

It always reminds me of my old Ducati 748.

By the way, if motor oil gets on the plates, are they garbage?

I imagine that the oil would become impregnated into the plates, and you'd end up witha whole lots of slippage. But I'd still try cleaning them with something like IPA and maybe giving them a light sanding.

My 2 cents.
