The ending seemed like a bit of an anticlimax.

Surely he anticipated some major vibration?

I'm glad in a way - that exhaust was the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Yeah. He could of easily bent the pipe into a decent position instead of mounting it like a truck exhaust stack !!

He could of tried using softer rubber mounts to take some vibration out of it. That subframe might of been a cause for that. The NSR motor is a rubber mounted stressed member, and doesn't use a subframe at all.

Was good that he didn't sodimise the chassis though.
10/10 for effort still. I think it could be made to work better with some more refinement.

The CR is a vibrating pig at the best of times. I loaded my CR500 engine into my CR250 aluminium chassis for Super Motard. Solidly mounted. No girly rubber bushes.

But the fact is Chris did it and the bike ran. Not perfect but a runner all the same.

And yes, the pipe is very ugly, but the 500 demands a very long pipe as it doesn't rev, and a huge body means you're very limited for space.

Did you see the next CR500 project on that side ? that looks really professionnal, although I don't understand the need for a 1 cyl. 500cc.

yeah, I've often thought about an NSR 500 project. Something like a one off case and crank, 90 deg V4 configuration naturally! Readily available bearings using CR 125 barrels, pistons and conrods/bearings. RS250 gearbox, CR500 clutch, or NSR dry clutch. 4 pickups on the flywheel and maybe a Motec M880 brain to control it all. Don't know about carbs or powervalves, what to use there! Anyway, its a prohibitivly expensive dream, but passes time on the daily train ride!

Mick Costin recently sold a set of NSR 500 cases for $10k US. The rest except the 1 piece press up crank would be easy.

(Oh yes the 480 was completely restored, that cannot be ridden in first gear it digs trenches in tracks in a one mean man bike)
