MC16 trouble

Tue Oct 05, 2010 5:45 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Does anyone have any idea why my MC16 goes through spark plugs in the front cylinder? Sometimes a new plug will only last 15 seconds! If the CDI was bad, it wouldn't go at all...switching them around is no help, either. Thanks in advance!

Have you also checked connections to coils are all clean and your oil pump setting?

It sounds like a flooded cylinder.

Turn the crank a few times with the spark plug removed and then try again.
You might also want to check that the RH pilot jet is still screwed where it is supposed to be.
Try a new spark plug, too.

If the above fails, I believe it's time to check for primary compression problems.

I have been over the ignition system, checked all connections for dirt and corrosion, all seems good. Eliminating that, I'm left with carburetor setup...I will check the float height, but I will have to find out what it's supposed to be. I don't believe it's flooding, the plug is dry when removed; a new plug fixes it temporarily. I can't hold my fingertip in the plug hole when the motor is kicked over, it blows my hand away easily so compression is not an issue. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes.

If the CDI was bad, it wouldn't go at all

Actually Scott thats not true. I had an MC16 that ate plugs like they were going out of fashion it also developed a miss-fire on the bottom cylinder. The MC16 actually has 2 x CDI, try swapping these over and see if the problem moves with them in my case it did.

I have documented my experience in the post below
