I'm rebuilding my MC16/18 engine - please an someone point me in the direction of instructions to remove the powervalves from the cylinder? Or let me know how it's done?
Don't go ruining the shaft by trying to undo the nut in the normal manner, it undoes clockwise. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

take the seal out
take the clip off
pull out the shaft with a claw hammer or the valve pulling tool
The seal is rather akward to get out with the shaft in and you have to change it anyway, so you can just pull the valve shaft through it and take it out afterwards. It will cost you a clip too. _________________ Poul

Hi Gents, aren't there clips holding onto the shaft on both ends ??? Question is, how do you get the clip off the other end of shaft(it appears to be inside cylinder? I am also trying to clean my power valves and am wanting to do it right the first time w/out damaging. Thanks for the replies.

not sure its the right way to do it but i use to get them red hot with oxy acetylene (without melting them) let them cool down then go at them with a soft wire brush
Thanks for all the replies with advice on removing the powervalve from the barrel - btw does anyone know where to get a clutch cover gasket from for the MC16? The place I get the gaskets from said they only could get the MC18 ones. Are these the same? Does anyone have any clutch cover gaskets for the MC16? I would like to do a full rebuild but I need this gasket
just had a look round all my usual sites and dont see a one ! it mite be a good idea when you get the gasket to trace round it so you can make your oun in the future.
just thinking you mite get one from david silver spares.............
Hi Mat,
If mc18 gasket is the same as mc21 one there is another hole in the gasket which mc16 clutch cover doesnt have and this is right on the line of the mating surfaces.
All i did was carefully cut this size hole out of my old gasket and fill in hole in new gasket, using some gasket sealant to finish the job!
Mc18/21/28 all use the same clutch cover gasket. As Gixer says, the gasket fits a MC16 but there is a hole in just the wrong place that needs to be filled. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Your best to use a stack of washers under the nut. tighten the nut down on the washers, and it will lift the shaft out slowely. _________________ Charles Gallant
