Brake caliper adapters

Fri Nov 19, 2010 12:57 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Could somebody out there help me out?

I need to replace my worn out disks on my 21 [276mm] at some point but seem unable to locate a supplier. So i was thinking of going for the later type [296mm available as after market]] and using adapters on the calipers rather than trying to get hold of different fork legs i.e. MC28.

So my question is does any body currently use adapters and if so could i be cheeky and get some dimensions to make my own or has anybody got another suggestion?

Easy way out is NC30 fork bottom and mudguard.

Your standard NSR legs and damper rods will fit and this will allow you to use the larger disk.

The only problem is that the 276 disk uses a different caliper to the 297. The included angle of the caliper differs to allow for the greater disk dia. If the caliper isn't changed the disk rubs on the caliper body.

You could use NC30 calipers though that look the same as NSR but with the different included angle.

Or you could just buy (or swap) some NC30 calipers from me as I found out what Steve is saying the hard way.

I have the whole nc30 caliper/lever/mater cylinder set lying around Wink

Have you checked with EBC? A year or so ago I picked up a new set of discs from them for my 21. . . .

what about the chinese rotors sold on ebay? does anyone have any experience with these? though i only see wave style front rotors. i too am looking for new rotors. opinions on the chinese stuff welcome.

shipping is also a bit baffling as they state they are not responsible for import taxes. How much and how these taxes get paid are a mystery to me.

In the past, I have had UPS act as a broker. They pay the import duties and then send me a bill. This has happened once or twice to me, dont recall what country the parts came from that they did that, but its not all countries that you need to do that with, escpecially if your talking used parts.

mc21 uses the same discs as the cbr250rr and I'm certain ebc makes them for the cbr.

I have heard a few bad reports about the chinese ones too, warping etc. so it's a bit of a gamble.

Do not buy the Chinese made front/rear rotor. It is not strong for hard braking...
Get a better aftermarket or OEM... Surprised

So, I offer a set at £200, and you post a link to another company for £300? I'll get my coat. Rolling Eyes

Yeah I was just trying to help prove that ebc actually produce them in the right size, didn't mean he should buy those ones when you have a far better price. sorry for being unclear, I promise it won't happen again Wink
