On the MC18 the method's different.
start the bike, valve moves to full closed at idle.
raise revs slowly, valve moves to full open somewhere around 3000 RPM (can't recall exactly)
raise revs a bit more and it goes back to full closed before starting to operate as designed.
On my bike, the "hi" and "lo" marks are dead on exact, or closer than any other mucking around has been able to get the settings.
