I don't know how the standard CDI would respond to an iridium cored plug, and therefore only recommend the BR9ECM. You'd need to speak to someone technical at NGK.

I never trust the word of people that simply say "they run OK in mine", as you don't know what conditions they are running in. The bike could be used for 5 mile runs to the beach and back in 20mph summer traffic for all I know! The system was designed to run on BR9ECM's, and they're a perfectly good plug.
