Lots of little restrictions in the MC16... actually, not restrictions as such, just things that were better developed on later models. The HRC kitted MC16 was still rated at 68PS though, C/W 28mm carbs. There's power to be had from one, but it'll take some digging out.

You should see around 180W/14.8V from the AC generator @ 5000rpm. If you don't then you can probably suspect either the stator or reg/rec, or both!

Honda state it's a "special" reg/rec, and using a different one will damage the CDIs. Quite how true this is, I cannot say, but it wouldn't be the first time they have used something a little "different".
