mc16 engine trouble

Mon May 09, 2016 10:16 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

Advice needed please, My mc16 recently acquired is running fine at tick over but really runs rough between 2 and 7 thou and stutters like mad before the power comes in . I've cleaned the carbs as it was only running on one pot and the power valves appear to be in sync .
I know it could be any one of numerous causes but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i'm new to resto's and my two stroke knowledge is passable but i'm no mechanic.

Ps has anyone used Firefox racing in keithley , Yorkshire. just curious as thinking of using them to rebuild a spare engine i purchased for the bike.

Thanks in advance
Brian

I'm afraid I can't help, but I did have issues with my own MC16 between 4000 and 4500. In my case I don't think the power valves were working properly and when I got the engine apart I found the bores and pistons pretty hammered. As yet it's still not gone back together...

I wouldn't touch Firefox with a barge pole if I were you. The owner (Andy) had a previous company by the name of DPS Racing, which went bump. He had my NS motor for over a year and even then it wasn't right!! It was just one excuse after another. I spent the same amount again and probably more, getting it put right again.

Utter w@n#er Evil or Very Mad

That's just my opinion of course, but is based on experience...

Are you local to Keighley?
I'm just up the road near Settle and have 2 mc16.
Give me a shout if you if you are coming up this way.
I had similar symptoms last year and it took 2 carb cleans to eventually sort it.
