PGM 4 back-up

Wed Aug 10, 2016 10:14 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Members,
I have starting to think about the day when my mc28 PGM 4 with HRC 030 card fails. I have another stock PGM 4 so not all will be lost. I recently reached out to some of the older contacts about reprogramming, but none have responded. So starting to think about my options. I realize my current unit could last another 20 years, but it could also last a week. I'd like to have a backup plan. Seems like my options are...

1) Keep looking for someone who can help re program my stock card to 030
2) Buy another PGM 4 that has 030 card.
3) Look into a PGM 3 set up. Requires loom change too? ( mc21 or hrc)
4) Look for alternate ignition set up. Looks like others have done this.

If I changed ignition I think I would also look to dump the mc28 carbs and all the air solinoids. I realize those have a purpose, but for tracking the bike i'm just not convinced they are needed. The rs250s use a very basic setup. I'd much rather go that route in terms of simplicity so as to make track day jetting easier.

Looking for some comments on potential future plans.

Regards
Eric

Option 3 is a bit more work. the MC21/PGM3 has different carbs, flywheel pick ups location are slightly different too. What difference that makes, I'm not certain at this point in time.

Has anyone heard from Drew Moriwaki-man in a while? I know he used to coordinate to have it done but I can't seem to be able to reach him by email.

T2 racing responded to an email from me saying its possible to do the programming, but no other details. I will see about calling them.

Drew hasn't responded to my email.
