MC 18 R5K rear wheel brembo caliper bracket

Sun Jul 23, 2017 3:00 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

]Hi Guys,

Recently I brought a RS 250 Magtek wheel 4.50 x 18 and modified the sprocket carrier to fit it in the back of my 1989 R5K MC 18. The RS 250 also uses a smaller diameter disc which again reduces weight. I then decided to really make the wheel as light as possible I would remove the standard rear caliper and supporting arm and replace it with a under slung brembo caliper much like Tyga supply for the MC 21 and MC 28. For the caliper bracket to work without the torque arm requires a locating lug to be welded to the inside of the swing arm. I sourced the rear brembo caliper out of a 98 ducati monster. It looks pretty trick in the modelled pictures and obviously takes a whole lot of weight out of the back wheel assembly.

This caliper bracket is specific for a MC 18 R5K with a 4.50 x 18 RS 250 rear wheel only.

I have had the bracket modelled up and priced to manufacture which of course depends on how many I get made. I can post some pictures of the modelled bracket if anybody is interested?

Dave

I have also done this mod to my mc21. i have used the rs250gp caliper and bracket along with a torsion bar that needed a mount welded on the inside of the s/arm, to be honest i dont know why i bothered, as i never use the rear brake anyway, it's been there 5 years and the pads are still brand new, looks trick though, but nobody ever notices it.

All looking good.

I'd be rather embarrased to show the bracket that was used to hold on the baby billet Brembo on my bike. Worked fine, but not exactly a work of art. I used the most high tech tools to do it back in the day. Basically, drill press, hack saw and hand files.

These days, having a lathe and a couple of CNC mills is like cheating really Wink
