MC16 hybrid

Just thought I would put a couple of photos up of my MC16 I've been working on. Just wanted to build something I haven't seen before.

It wasn't a negative comment by the way. Any NSR is good. It's also another way around damaged plastics and modernising the style. A digital speedo and round LED headlight would look good as well

Cheers lads, I was looking for an old two stroke to build a hybrid but didn't want to do the RD350 thing that everybody else is doing. I found an MC16 that needed a lot of work so I thought it might be a good starting point. It's still a work in progress and it won't be everybody's cup of tea I know but the idea of a hybrid is to build what you want. I pretty much just had to work things out for myself as I don't think anyone has really messed around with the MC16 too much. What do you think about the two stroke oil tank? The standard one is really ugly but usually hidden by the fairing.

I've decided to keep the standard clocks I think, Ive just modified the bracket. I have all the original parts and haven't butchered the frame so that it could be put back to stock. The rear end looks a little different now as I've shortened it slightly and fitted the rear light, indicators and number plate bracket. I will take a few more photos next time I'm in the garage.

Rivet counters...haha, yeah I've been preparing myself for the barrage of abuse and negative comments! I bought two MC16s from the same bloke. One hadn't ran for years and the other was just a donor bike really but both are UK registered with logbooks.

Maybe some obnoxiously loud stubby silencers would suit it too! Smile

I was thinking of getting some pipes for it but wasnt sure about jetting. The motor is stock with just a slight airbox mod so I just painted the stock pipes and polished the cans for now. I can imagine it would sound lovely with some decent pipes on though.

Thanks Andy!
After I put it all together, I "borrowed" the license plate off my CBR600F3 and took it for a spin with my usual Sunday group. It was a blast!!
This one is going away soon to Oklahoma to a new home. Very Happy

Jasper, nice work. I recognise the Swingarm. I seam to remember the spindle diameter is quite small on that bike. I opened the slots out to take a 20mm spindle from a CBR600F. I modified the the caliper brackets and used a Nissin caliper from the CBR900 Fireblade. Bet it stops well with those radial brakes? I kept the stock MC16 front wheel and machined some adaptors to fit 310mm discs with Brembo 4 pots.
