Making an NSR quieter!

Making a bike quieter?? Who'd have thought anyone would ever want to do that!

My MC21 (Johnnymac's old bike: http://www.nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13442) has MMAX pipes, and they have consistently tested at 102.6db. At Brands the limit is usually 102db so it's not ideal. I have re-packed the silencers but no real change.

One expensive option is to buy another set of pipes, but might this will need the jetting to be altered?

Or could I make slightly longer and/or fatter silencers? I don't know if the internal pipe diameter (approx 1") plays a large role here than the silencer volume. I have the facilities to knock a pair up.

Any suggestions gladly welcomed!

Christ that's loud for a static test Ian, mine use to register 98 at Brands, as well as the static teat they also cop you on the drive past coming out of clearways, my rs250 got pulled registering 108 with newly packed cans, who would have thought a lowly little 250 would be louder than all those big bore strokes. Longer cans are whats needed, and I think that when packing them it's better to pack them loosely and not too tight. If it's any use I have a pair of tyga cans you could borrow if it helps.

Often it's a combination of the pipes and the intake. Is it running open carbs/pod filters? A modded airbox may help quieten it down a little.

Any change, re-jet to suit!
