Honda MC21/MC28 2T Oil Range...

Fri Nov 01, 2019 1:45 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi...wondering how far in distance (either in kilometers or miles) people typically get on average (with street use) before the 2T oil reservoir bottle is empty after filling it up with
a Honda MC21 or MC28 NSR250 please?

As a side note...I think my 2001 NSR150SP doesn't get much past 70 kilometers in distance from full - before it's just about empty of 2T oil after filling?

Thanks! Smile

I couldn't tell you what the average is, as I never let the level run down.

My reasoning for this is that on rare occasions, the oil pump drive shaft seal can become unseated, and slip down the shaft. This allows the 2T oil to drain into the gearbox.

Topping the 2T reservoir back up after every ride [and checking the level befpre every ride] ensures you spot the problem if it ever occurs.

However, I can tell you that a few years back I would regularly do a 206 mile "Devon TT" without fully emptying the tank.

Wow...206 miles - that's awesome!

Your NSR250 must either have a much larger 2T oil tank/bottle than my NSR150SP...or my NSR150SP mixture ratio is set way wrong? or both?

Thanks Andy! Smile

Often used to do this route. Smile

An MC21 will easily cover this on less than a tank of 2T.

Thanks for going to the trouble of putting the map picture on Andy...and I still find it amazing you could go that far before
the 2T oil runs out.

I'll have to find someone in my area (Melbourne,Australia) who can check if mine is adjusted right.

I'm only getting 70 to 100 kilometers somewhere from full to empty on my NSR150SP.

Thanks so much! Smile

Bear in mind the MC21 oil tank is 1.2ℓ, whereas the NSR150 is only 0.76ℓ.

Hmmm...I still think mine might be adjusted a little bit wrong as well though?

Thanks again! Smile
