hey all. after years of being away from the nsr scene I've recently joined again with a ns400 and a ns250.

at first I hadn't expected much from the 400 but it blew me away at how well it rode. its currently sat without the fairing fitted as I intend to build a gp500 style rep with her.

also looking for a nsr250 r6k to buy if anyone is selling Smile

Hi "sand300", and welcome to NSR-WORLD.

The NS400 is very underrated, I think. Probably because it was never released as a 500 version here alongside the RD and RG, but I know the handling for the time was very good, and the motor extremely smooth.

Would love to see/hear more about the NS250. I've never actually seen on in real life.

thanks guys, it's a ns250r mc11 in rothmans colours. believe honda classes it as a super edition (SE) but they should have called it a SP for special paint!

once I've worked out how to add pics I'll post some up.

as a stock bike it cant be compared to a nsr250. I've owned several mc16, 18 and 21's in the past so quite familiar.

theres very little torque low down and then she rips from 7500rpm to 10500.

it still feels lightweight though. brakes are pretty good. it has a lot of charm and for a stock bike it sounds great. it just looks cool.

the ns400r is near enough the same shape . I think it's only the bellypan that differs. it's in rothmans colours too. the ns250r rothmans paint is much nicer. it looks far more racy.

I'd bought it from a old chap who had 5 ns400's and he was a real tinkerer with them. when I arrived hed just finished boring some carbs for his other ns400

he had rebuilt the motor but said was 'mainly stock'. hmmm. had a go round the block. felt like a nice crisp 400 should. thought nothing more of it and stuck it in the back of the workshop. few weeks later couple of mates came round and asked for a go on it. fair enough.

1st mate came back 'jesus that's mental..... I just thought what a baby!.
2nd mate had a go 'omg its relentless, I cant believe how fast it is.

think I'd better have another go. jump on and it's just as youd expect, nice, smooth, felt like you could go to work on it. there was no indication it was about to try throw me off the back once it reached 8000 rpm. bang it just screams.

without trying to sound like a 17 year old it genuinely lifts the front off the power in 3rd gear.

I'm looking forward to pulling it apart to see what the previous owner has done internally

the 250 will just be rode and enjoyed for what it is.

the 400 has much bigger plans. I've started buying bits for it already. nc30 cartridge forks, discs , wheel, calipers, honda rs250 yokes, mc18 r5k swingarm.

still need rear wheel, linkage etc..

once the handling side of its done then I'm going for honda rs250 tank, nsr500 bodywork and I'll make a new subframe. lots of work ahead but I'm sure shes worth it Smile

Sounds good. Where abouts in the country are you? The Ace cafe has a 2 stroke day on the 13th September, should be a few of us popping down, be good to see a NS250 in the flesh Very Happy

Hi, keep us posted on the updates of the 400, we like lots of piccies, as Andy said earlier, never seen an ns250 in the flesh, and although they may not look as racy as an nsr, there is something about them that looks just right especially in the rothmans colours.

As I expect you know already, but for the benefit of others who may be interested, the NS250 is a short-stroke (56x50.6mm) motor, whereas the NSR250 is a "square" motor (54x54.5mm). The NSR250 is also a "big bang" configuration. That combination is what can make them sound a little flat. I believe, although I am not certain, as well as being a short-stroke motor, the NS250 is also a "screamer".

Also, the NS is piston ported, and only has the earlier, less advanced ATAC system, which is another reason why the NSR250 is so much stronger in the bottom-end and mid-range. There will be a small section on the NS250 in the main website revamp I am currently writing, which will hopefully be of interest to some. It was pretty important during HRC's early development of the NSR.
