This is my first post here. Thanks to Andy for creating this great forum for discussions/advice that can help newbies like myself on Honda NS250R.
I am new to the NSR world.
I recently purchased the '1985 NS250R Rothman Paint Scheme". I am told the bike is missing Oil pump, Oil Reservoir, Lines/Hoses for automatic oil injection. The bike is currently running with pre-mix. I am looking forward to finding the Oil injection parts and set up the automatic functioning. Instead of worrying to do the pre-mix which could be challenging for disappointment for long rides. Wanted to hear from the group experts on how tough it is to find the necessary parts for the oil injection setup on NS250R. And, if the parts# are interchangeable or swappable from other NSR models. Like NS400R, MC18/MC21/MC28 oil pump setup fitting the MC11 bike.
I did hear the oil reservoir/tank and oil lines are hard to find parts. Kindly, let me know if you have the parts or any leads that will help me. I am based out of San Jose, CA, USA.
Please can you keep NS specific posts to this area, as multiple posts have the potential to fragment information and/or replies, and if you find me in a bad mood one day, posts going missing! I like to keep things very much in order... partly OCD, and partly to keep the information in its relevant section. It just makes thing much easier to reference in the future.
I'm afraid you are likely to find nothing is interchangeable between the NS250R and NSR250R. They really are chalk and cheese. I really do love the NS, because it's a bike of my era! I lusted after a Rothmans NS125 as a kid when learning to ride -- I had an MBX125F, the model that came before it, and obviously Freddie Spencer, who was riding the NS500 in GPs, was my first GP hero! But no matter how much I love them, I can't help but think you've possibly taken on a huge job, that I personally wouldn't want!
Your best bet is going to be scouring Yahoo! Auctions in Japan, to see what parts turn up. But be prepared to pay heavily for the privilege if you find anything decent, in both purchase price and fees/shipping. It's a very costly undertaking these days. Sorry, not trying to put you off or anything, but giving you a hint of what's to come.
Restoring it to its former glory is certainly doable though. I know TYGA performance have an MVX250 (the V3 that pre-dates the NS400R) and managed to source a lot of parts for it from Japan, and there were far more NS250Rs made than MVXs (the MVX250 was a one-year-only model), so much more chance of finding the parts you're looking for. You're likely to find more in common with the NS400R, but that in itself creates problems, as the Japanese market's gone bonkers for those and their spare parts too now.
As for performance, they're pretty much on par with anything else of the early-mid 80s, although in typical Honda form, slightly less manic, with a [slightly] wider spread of power/torque that its contemporaries. You're not going to see much over 45hp, although an HRC TT-F3 spec bike was claimed to be 55ps, so there's a little more power lurking in the motor if you're really desperate for it, but don't expect it to come easily. _________________ Andy.

Appreciate your quick response. Will make sure to keep my NS250r posts to this branch of NS250. I did read your instructions, like the way you prefer to maintain the forum.
The bike I purchased, is turnkey ready to ride a motorcycle, currently run with pre-mix, except for the Auto lube setup (Oil pump and related setup). After posting here and further research on the internet, I see people listing the NS400R oil pump setup compatible with NS250R. Wish one of our members more familiar with the NS250R setup could confirm that for me. While I am also awaiting a response from the worldwide seller.
Unfortunately it's a very rare bike around here. A couple have popped up in the past, but very few posts unfortunately. Hopefully you can become our resident expert!
The NS400R pump has 3 outlets, unlike the dual outlet of the NS250R pump. I expect you can blank the unused feed, but I'd look for the correct pump. They look similar, but certainly not the same. _________________ Andy.
