Rebuilt NSR Mc16

Tue Mar 30, 2021 6:29 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All

Thought I would share my latest project with you that I have just finished. Its now ready for Mot. This is an MC16 NSR and has taken me 3 years to complete. I bought in 2008 for £995 and had a go rebuilding then but was a disaster! mainly as I worked at sea I didn't have much time and didn't manage it well, didn't go to the right people and ebay was just getting going for pattern parts offering good deals. However I have learnt my lesson.
Fast forward years later and this time I have rebuilt the whole engine with oem parts. GT Motorcycles rebuilt the crank. Had everything powder coated. Hel Brakes, Tyga exhausts and the rest original reconditioned parts. This has been a long time coming and looking forward to riding this year.

Also in the background is my SP MC28 which I rebuilt the crank last year so both are up and running and hopefully have many years of riding. Hope you all Like the pics!

Ian

Looks good, don't see many mc16's restored, did you not fancy the oem colours ?, looks good in castrol colours though.

Thanks guys, With regards to the paint job I bought it like this and it polished up nicely so I left it and it looks better than standard in my opinion, it was an ex race bike. In the flesh it really stands out and I quite like it too. I know these aren't the sort after NSR's but as they only made them for a year they are rare and anyone who knows the many 250 2 strokes aren't familiar with the 16's so it always draws a crowd more than the SP which is strange.

I had a MC18 engine which luckily enough used the datum crank from that for the 16 crank so I can use the later seals as the 16 is no longer available so hopefully will be on the road for a long time.

Superb! Love to see an MC16 rebuilt and restored. Value-wise, I think their time will come too. At the moment, they're still [relatively] a bargain!

Do you have any build photos?

Yep, as Andy said, their day will come, look at mc18's, r2j and r4j, not long ago they were looked on as the poor relation of the nsr world, but as mc21 and mc28's are drying up, look at the prices dealers are now asking for them, all tatty and cant be bothered to get em running !!!!!, meself I loiks an 18.

Very interesting pics. Thanks for posting. Makes me think I need to get an engine stand. Like the KR1-S in the background.
