NSR250R2J 88 Wet Clutch Plates

Mon May 16, 2022 3:37 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi
I am rebuilding a Clutch for the above NSR for road use only, replacing the friction and steel plates.

My question is:
- Would you use Genuine Honda or are EBC just as good, given it is for road use?

For my general info:
I notice that there are different Friction Plate configs between the 88 R2J and 89 R5K as follows:
- the NSR250 1988 R2J uses a combination of 6 x 22201-MS6-620 and 1 x 22202-ML4-611
- the NSR250 1989 R5K uses a combination of 1 x 22201-MS6-620, 5 x 22201-KAE-000 x and 1 x 22202-ML4-611

Are there any benefit of using the R5K combination over the R2J?

Many thanks in anticipation
Phil

First the easy one... Prefer OEM Honda, but never had a problem with the EBC friction plates.

Second, are you sure you're not looking at the MC16 vs MC18?

NSR250R2J 88 Wet Clutch Plates

Hi Andy

Once again many thanks for your help and clarifying OEM versus EBC much appreciated.

In regard to the second part it looks like I am totally up a gumtree or is it up a creek without a Paddle!

I got the details from the CMS Website:
R2J - https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-nsr250r2-1988-j-japan_model49608/partslist/0061.html
R5K - https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-nsr250r5-type-ii-1989-k-japan_model49611/partslist/0061.html
and David Silver confirmed the two different configs as being for the R2J and R5K, but I must admit I was mystified as the Centre and Outer Clutch Housing parts are the same for the R2J and R5K hence I smelt a Rat.

I am very much indebited for sorting that out for me as it was begining to do my head in LOL.

Many thanks Andy.

The above image is from the final release of the parts manual. Not sure what CMSNL and David Silver are looking at?!

Of course, it's all irrelevant if you go with EBC anyway, as they only do one kit for the wet clutch NSRs! CK1181

Hi Andy

I'm not sure either and feel its rather worrying when ordering spares from CMS and using their online Parts Manual as a reference. Think I will have to obtain an official Parts Manual.

Shall be getting the Honda OEM Friction Plates.

Many thanks for the help and steering me in the right direction much appreciated.

Amongst the huge list of things I've given myself to do, a new Online Parts Manual is part of the website overhaul.

Unfortunately... I've not got that far!

What with the upcoming HRC History section, which has turned out to be almost an entire site all on its own, and a complete recoding of the Main Site, it's a lot to get done on my own.

I'll look into what I can do about getting more MC18 Parts Manual pages up soon.

Hi Andy

Don't envy the task, but will be well worthwhile in the end.

Wish you the very best on that one.

If there's anything I can do to help even if just converting stuff to different formats please let me know as am willing to help if I can.

Reghards

Phil

Thank you for the offer, Phil. If I could find something to delegate, I would... all the updates are really dragging on now! Even I'm getting impatient to see it! 🙄🤣🤣
