What is the correct setting for the oil pump pulley? there are 2 index marks on the pulley one approx .25" from the front edge of the pulley the other about 1" further around from this, The diagram on the technical page appears to show it aligning with the first mark but I also have a picture which shows it aligned to the second index mark (I think i downloaded this from a previous thread on this site some time a go). my pump body index mark aligns roughly in the centre of both the pulley index marks on full throttle.
Hey Paul, I lived in Cambridge for 20 years or so ...
anyway, I think one of those marks is the MAX oil mark. By turning the throttle I think you should be able to see it open and close, so that will tell you which one of the two is the MAX oil marker. Dunno what the other one is but would guess it is either the MIN marker or simply the stock setting. With airbox/jetting etc. mod.s or track riding you might want more oil, but for stock road riding the standard setting might be good. _________________ MC28 SE -sold-

Thanks for the replies, I thought the furthest mark was the max mark so I set it to this (on full throttle) and it now runs like a dog and keeps going on one cylinder.Andy I just wanted to confirm the first marker on the pulley is definetley the correct mark?I dont want to set it too lean and seize it!Thanks again for the quick replies fellas.
P.S.where abouts did you live invigator? I live in Sawston just south of Cambridge.
Strange that, as I have my pump aligned as per the diagram, and it runs fine.
I have just checked 2 pumps I have here in the office, and on both, the first index mark would be far too weak if the pump was set up with that mark aligned at full throttle. _________________ Andy.

Andy is your pulley set to the second mark? the diagram on the tech page looks as if it is on the first mark. i should have left well alone as it was running o.k. as it was and like a prat i did not mark the position before I adjusted it! I have also had the carbs off to clean as I have been having starting problems but Iam 100% sure I have assembled them correctly and I did not adjust anything.
Thanks for that Andy I guess I must have been lucky before as my pump was set on the lean side, maybe I just havent been thrashing it enough! The only problem is I now have to figure out what is making it run so bad!
I have the standard type plug in (br9ecm) and my nsr is standard apart from the wire splice mod.I removed and cleaned the carbs and adjusted the oil pump while I was doing this and since then it will not run properly.Previous to this it had gone onto one cylinder twice before but this was very rare , now it runs fine with no load but as soon as i ride it it goes onto one cylinder. Iam going to try it with new plugs incase it is just a bad plug and then I was going to disconnect the oil pump and run it on pre-mix just to make sure it is not an oil pump problem, after that I guess I will take the carbs off again to make sure I havent messed anything up in there.I have checked the connections on the coils and they seem pretty clean.
What a pain the sun is shining and I just want to go for a blast, I have had the bike for 2 years and have only just got it all running nice as I finally got hold of a serviceable pgm, fixed the burnt out powervalve servo and seized valves!Trouble is its a lot of fun when its running good otherwise i would just get rid of the damn thing!
I just put a new pair of plugs in and took her for a spin and she's running as good as ever! What a result. Thanks for everyone for the advice I can now ride it with the confidence its getting fed the right amount of oil.
Cool mate. They really are worth the aggro when they go aren't they?
Now you have to hang around the forum and pass on advice in return for the stuff you got! _________________ MC21SP Plaything
