I've never personally seen one fail, but have seen them with what appears to be hairline cracks in the plastic.
DMR in Japan sell a reproduction part, which appears to use an upgraded plastic material, but we've never actually used one, so that's the limit of my ability to comment. _________________ Andy.

I had one that had a crack in it, but it was still working when I stripped the engine. I managed to find a genuine replacement and it was still ok when it was last refreshed. I expected anything plastic has a life span. It's a trade off for when the genuine part was made and how it was stored. After market parts is probably a lottery on the quality of the material used. _________________ Why do things simply when you can complicate them
You have to wonder how many "Japanese" aftermarket parts are made in China these days. Not saying that everything that comes out of China is bad, but unless you're a billion Dollar multinational, you're at their mercy regarding quality control and materials used.
We only have non-critical rubber and nylon location parts made in China, where the UK just can't compete on pricing, or it's too expensive to set up manufacturing ourselves. The consistency just isn't good enough, and virtually zero accountability. _________________ Andy.
