Please can someone advise, I had water passing through into my gearbox of my mc16 engine. When I fitted a brand new mech seal some of the blue gasket sealant was missing and when I fitted I realised but it was too late so I assumed when the gear box oil overflowed through the overflow I thought this was the reason. However when taking the seal out I may have put the oil seal round the wrong way as I fitted it thinking to seal the oil side but now believe it maybe fitted to prevent the water passing into the gearbox. As this does not show in the drawings which way. As the water cooling is pressurised more thank the gearbox I believe the seal should be fitted with the spring on the water side? can anyone help? Thanks Ian
I guess it does as the mechanical seal is preventing the water from passing through and the oil seal is preventing oil. So the oil seal should be positioned with the spring on the chamfer facing towards the internal components?
