about tyres...

Tue May 25, 2004 10:09 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am about to buy a new set of tyres on my MC21. The previous owner had 120/60 - 160/60, while the original were 110/70 - 150/60.
What are the advantages of the original setup instead of the other ?
Is there any tested better setup ?
Thanks
Andreas

Yeah the standard sizes work very well, albeit that the world has moved on and most manufacturers aren't developing new rubber in those sizes.

Get yourself a pair of Dunlop GPR70's if you want sommat sticky, or GPR80's for something that will last a bit longer. The 70's are good enough to get the fairing and exhaust down on...

Are the GPR70-80 a tyre for race use or for road use ? Are they still in production ?
Thanks again

The GPR's are still in production, and both are road legal. The 70 is mega sticky and will consequently wear quickly, whereas the 80 is harder so lasts longer but won't stick so well.

The 70 isn't so good in the wet, as there's lots of rubber and not much tread!

That bike is my one and only NSR, and is now back in road trim.

Christ! I doubt you can get much faster - I had to drop the forks through the yokes to slow mine down, as it was falling faster than I could cope with. Confused

tyres

Wed May 26, 2004 3:40 pm » Post: #13 » Download Post

, Think i have mentioned this before.

You can get every new tyre for the stock nsr size, 110, 150, the only one missing was the michelin pilot race in 110 but i have been told by a tyre supplier they are coming soon prouctions runs etc.

Gprs are good but you must remember they have been around since the early 90's I was using pirreli MP7's when they were about and mp7s are old,

If you have a hard on for dunlops use the 207rr or 208's both superb for both track and road use, bollacks to road temperature crap, they warm up fine and work very well, all the new tyres vary from £150 a pair to £180 depending were you shop.

Go on try something new
