New to NSR World, but haven't got an NSR yet myself. My bike may be up for sale soon (if a potential buyer offers enough moolaa anyway; if not, the bike stays) and an NSR250 may well be next in line as the bike to own.
I've had a quick search through the forum, mostly about buyer's guides and what not, but I'm still very unfamiliar with strokers (only ever had a test ride on a TZR125 for a mate a couple of years back).
Any basic tips/buying guides/what to look for/basic 2 stroke servicing would be very helpful (what needs doing at what intervals, etc).
I'll continue my forum search nevertheless, see if I can pick up some tips without wasting too many people's time.
If you look at the Workshop section in the main site, there is a Maintenance Schedule you can have a look at.
There have been previous posts regarding what to look for etc., but I'm sure some of the guys will pipe up sooner rather than later.
Maybe you'd like to consider coming along to the proposed X-mas Bash to hear some of the stories and nightmares from everyone!! _________________ Andy.

lol, I can't sleep at night atm, trying to work out if it's the right time to sell my bike (wasn't even considering it until someone started offering silly money for it - still not enough yet though). I don't have much hair either - found it easier to shave it all off rather than fiddle around with greasy helmet hair all the time.
Ideal NSR owner?
I've begun to read through past posts and the very handy information in the Workshop forum. With regards to areas such as engine rebuilds and what not, when do you realise it's time for a set piece of work - i.e., does a top end need to be replaced every x thousand miles, or is there an indication to show that work needs doing.
All my concerns about 2 stroke ownership stem from the engine side of things really - I'm reasonably accustomed to motorcycle maintenance such as suspension, brakes, chasis, cleaning, etc.
Is there anywhere to find some idea of pricing for NSRs; average kind of prices, running costs, money set aside for rebuilds, etc.

And rightly so, they are not quite as reliable as your present bike and that's being very polite.

Not really but in general;
MC16's and 18's tend to be pretty cheap, sub £1000 but probably aren't your sort of thing (esp the '16 and early '18s)
MC21's are in my opinion a massive bargain right now, NSRMonkey's NSR250R is for sale here on this very site having just had a full engine rebuild (inc new Honda crank and both pistions) for a mere £1400. You can get 21SE's and even 21SP's for that sort of money too but not with a near new engine. No doubt the smart NSR money is here. If matey will run to (say) £5k for your RVF you could get something like this, another bike for running around on and sort out any issues with the NSR easily
MC28's cost lot's, probably double the price of an equally good MC21, are really rare as a result and for no reason other than they are trick. There was a really nice looking Repsol 28sp in MCN a week or two back that sold straight away for somewhere near £3500, looked pretty standard too so wanted a grand spending on it. Oddly '28se's and r's seem even rarer still in the UK.
The best history and pics of every model I've seen are here or of course here
For anyone who's curious we've discussed ths in a thead on greybike too. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Many thanks Fontyyy; again above and beyond the call of duty for your advice. I've got some reading to do now, need to do some research into these NSRs!
I do prefer them to the Aprillias that are also on my list; their rarity/trickness is something that really appeals to me (having to source parts for my bike/having them made specially has opened up a whole new field of motorcycling ownership. I'm not one for aimlessly thumbing through Demon Tweaks ticking off items on a wish list)
Saw 'Monkey's bike for sale on 400gb; if my RVF had already gone, I'd definately be interested in taking a look, despite the distance (I'm way down in Sussex). As of yet, I am also considering other non-stroker alternatives, but, everything's in the ideas/possibilities stage atm.
