Firstly, hello to everyone, been having a look around, but thought if i'm gonna buy one, i'd best get to know you all.
Don't know if anyone can just give me a bit of guidence, but i've fallen in love with NSR250s since I saw an absolutely gorgeous example of a MC28 SE at the Isle of Man earlier this year.
Been looking around to see what is available (which isn't much) at a reasonable price. I don't have much money at all, and I have to sell my car before I can even think about it .
I've found a fairly tatty MC21 R which came in to the UK about 6 weeks ago, I got the frame number today which I was hoping someone might be able to tell me exactly what model it is (i.e R7, R8 etc..)
Frame #: MC21-1011175
Some pics:
The asking price is £1095, which strikes me as a little high seeing as it needs quite a bit of work doing on it, but it is from a bike importers . It is relatively complete, needing a left side footpeg, a fork seal and a front indicator.
I had seen complete bikes for sale, but I would rather buy something that I can work on over the winter. The theory being that I can spend money on it slower rather than in one go (and have the 'enjoyment' in the process).
Hi Budda. There are a couple of nsr's on ebay at the moment. A very nice mc18 and a mc21 needing a couple of bits and pieces doing. Good luck at finding a bike. You should be able to get one for less than the one you've shown.
There were only 3 different model '21's the r,se and sp and as you rightly say thats an r
And it's a bit steep for a tatty '21r in the current climate, they're fetching very low prices right now. I don't know if Jamie has sold his Pentax '21sp yet but it's complete, runs, is an SP (dry clutch, adjustable suspension and fancy light Magtec wheels etc.)
See the ad in classified here. The £500 more he wants for it is in the value of the wheels and suspension alone easily.
You might not care now but having "just" an R model will start to annoy you in the end.
But '28s fetch considerably more money than '21s, if you can raise some more try your luck with an offer on this.
Also be aware; derestict a 21, nearly free - derestrict a '28, nearly a grand _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
The Irish one appears to be an MC18 IIRC, and seems to be creeping up in price at a fairly scary rate..Plus the aggro of getting it to Bristol
As for the other one, I have got my eye on that, but something doesn't seem right about it, dunno exactly what, but there you go.
The price I gave for the above one is the price they have it marked up as, but they sound like they are prepared to come to some sort of arrangement on it
Welcome Buddha. I think you could do better than that.... for a start get an MC18 not a common as hell 21 or an over priced 28
Plus a 18 is the closest thing to an early RS250, and makes the most power in its derestricted form.... i like 18's you know lol _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
That NSR has ben in that shop for quite long time I believe. I watch that site regularly, and I'm sure that was there when I visited in May (to look at an FJR!)
I didn't get too good a feel about the guys there to be honest. Dunno why as they were perfectly pleasant, but just got the feeling they would say just about anything to make a sale.
Bodywork is expensive, if not impossible to get hold of. The rest is pretty good price wise, and most parts are easily sourced second hand.
Buyer beware, but I do think you can do better for that money. I'd pay £750 tops for that one, and even then, only after I'd done a compression check on it to verify the state of the engine. A bad engine will cost you £500 if it needs two replates and piston kits... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Hi there and welcome, The Yellow NSR SE is mine, yes she needs a few parts but the money rasied from her sale will go to my new TYGA boby and subframe so ill have all the parts to repair her by christmas. your more than welcome to come and compare my R and the SE even if you dont want to buy just now, but youll see that the r your looking at isnt worth it. I paid 1200 for my R it came with a new crank and recent top end the front fairing was replica and the front disc where warped but that was it, a nice clean bike. As Fontyyy says JAMIES sp is a nice bike and worth the cash... If your near peterborough gimmi a shout and come have a look.
Sit tight mate.....you know more will come along in the near future. Always the way
I recently bought a MC18 off eBay for £250. The top barrel has seized, got repairs priced at around £350 inc labour. Haven't had a proper look at the plastics, but i bought it purely as a cheap project. God i missed the 2-stroke smell

Thats interesting as i'm sure one of the guys told me it had only been in there for 6 weeks I know what you mean about the chaps in there, but if I can knock a considerable amount off what they are asking, it saves me a whole shed load of hassle in the fact that it is only walking distance to get it home..
Plus, like I say it woould be a complete project which is what i'm seeking really. Would rather not pay over the top, but it does all fit into place nicely.
Skooter, I think I saw that one you bought, I don't have anything in particular against the MC18s, i'd just prefer an mC21 really.. Got the looks of the MC28 without the aggro of derestricing (oh, and no single sided arm obviously, but do you think I care about that?)
Good chance I won't have the money up together before it goes, but it gives me something to aim for anyway.. Think positive and all that
Thanks for all the pointers chaps..
Nobody go any ideas exactly what model it is though?
I got an MC16 with siezed engine for £350, I got an MC18 engine for £150, then sold the bottom end for £100. A few gaskets / clips rings etc later and it was running. I think it goes a bit faster with 18 barrels / carbs, but as it didn't go at all before that's not difficult!
