First off, a small thank you to the kind people who took the time earlier this year to help find me a 21 Frame with V5. I've finally had the bugger rebuilt complete with new chassis and ridden it in anger. I'll never throw my leg over another 4 stroke again!
The handling is sublime, more capable than I'll ever be, however, it lacks the grunt that my tuned RGV's had. I'd been toying with the idea of fitting the 300 kit from tyga when an NS400R came up for 700 bucks - another impluse buy!
It's a complete and reasonably clean bike but the bodywork's been kicked around the guys garage for 4 or 5 years most of which is damaged beyond repair.
Since I now have a complete spare rolling chassis I could try and shoe horn the NS400 motor into the nsr frame! Has anyone ever done this? I've seen loads of RGV/RS/RG500 projects but never an NS/NSR.
Fair enough, the NS motor isn't near as powerful as the RG, but it's reliable, spares are readily available, and Terry Shepherd (an hours drive away) is an NS400 specialist - 500 conversions, Race pipes etc.
this has been spoken about before
i think the main problem is the rear shock etc is in the way of the exhaust from the back cylinder
but anything possible _________________ Half the strokes, twice the fun
I can only find a few things on a RG being shoved in it, BUT i have seen one, it was a rothmans rep, with a 21 frame martec swingarm if i find the web page ill post it.
I had a look at this, the rear exhaust is much to close to the rear shock in a 21 frame, its better in an 18 but the 18 frame is almost 2" too narrow so both are very hard projects. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
To the best of my knowledge, and for the reasons given [and the fact that the RGV 22 frame is a nigh on perfect fit] this has NOT been done. _________________
Hmmm, looks like a very tight squeeze. I have a friend who says he'll be willing to do all the welding / fabrication. He's a bit more adventurous than me & he's confident he can make it work. I'm just worried I start chopping things around to find it wont go in so thought I'd see whats been done before. Thats the first nsr/rg project I've seen. I thougth that would've been impossible.
I think I'll start by taking the motor out of the frame and sizing it up first. I'm going to pull it apart anyway and freshen up the top-end. I think terry shepherds 500 conv + pipes will be first on my shopping list, jetted properly that should see it well on its way to the 90hp mark (reliably) with bags of torque. If I could then squeeze it into the nsr chassis and top it all off with a radial mount USD front end and the new RSW kit from TYGA it'd be a real peach. Anyone wanna lend me 5 grand?
5 grand!! You're having a laugh aren't you... Double that, and add in some Donuts and you'll be on the mark... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
