Hey, when i got my license at the driving school we used the honda CB400 and first gear is very easy to idle. When i first rode the nsr i stalled a few times, do you have to like idle above 3000 to keep it from stalling?
Also when i got it the guy told me to pull back the choke when i kick start the bike and then push it back after the engine is started. do i have to do this everytime?
Also they topped the engine oil with i think catrol or something. I asked if i could put in motul 600 and they said its fine, is it ok to mix engine oil??
do you guys put in regular gas or the higher octane gas (more expensive gas) and when should i change the spark plugs?
Sorry for all the questions, i'm just a noob when it comes to nsr's
Thanks
You will need to give it some throttle to take off, it's not like the 4 strokes where you can practically just launch it with just clutch only.
When the engine is cold, I always start it with the choke on. When it's warm, I usually don't.
The topic of mixing oil brands is still under debate by the experts on this site.
I pump Mobil 8000 or BP Ultimate (98RON fuel) coz that's the best we can get in Aus. I try to avoid the Shell Optimax (Shell's 98RON fuel). Alot of people don't recommend them for carbied 250's. _________________ Jerry Lai

Swapping oils is not thought of as a good thing to do, yes they do mix but try to avoid it. Most people I know use Rock Oil fully synthectic.
Theres a bit of a knack to starting them but if it's warm it should start without the choke, you need to get a feel for where the pistons are (by gently prodding the kickstart) before you kick it.
If it's set up well it'll tick over around 1000 rpm and mine will pull off around 1500rpm no problems but it's a '28 and that's after a bit of experimentation with the jetting and some nervous plug chops, most others I've seen/tried are not that good, a good few revs tend to be required. It shouldn't just stall when sat there though.
Spark plugs? People tend to change them when it doesn't like starting/ticking over.
If it's totally standard whatever is "regular" in Japan will be fine, it's what it was designed to run on.
Really you need to find out what (if anything) has been changed and if it's not completely standard in every way check the jetting, higher octane fuels or just avoiding running flat out in top in the first place are both just bad ways of making up for poor or (even worse) unknown setups.
That said though I'll probably run 97ron on the track next week _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
