Best/cheapest place to order piston?

Fri Oct 28, 2005 1:14 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

You may or may not know that i recently bought a cheap MC18 off of eBay that the top barrel was seized on.

Can anone recommend where i can get a piston kit, as the local place that first quoted me has upped the price from £50ish to around £150.

Apex do them, just wondered if anyone else did?

I see Tyga also sell parts, but really need to get it asap.

Thanks in advance
Scott

Ask Andy. I got my stuff through extra fast cuz of the dyno day (not that it all came off...) so they will ship fast if needs be. I think you'll find the prices pretty damn competitive, and you'll be supporting this site too!

Concerning pistons, you'll have to find your cylinder size before you go ordering. There will be a stamp (A, B or C) on the back lower edge of the cylinder. This is the size. You will then need a piston matched to this.

However, this is not always true, and really applies to new or nearly new cylinder as if your cylinder is worn then there's a good chance than on 'oversize' piston will be in order.

Speak to Andy and see if he's got anything handy.

Thanks Matt.

Andy's already replied, i'm just waiting on my mate to let me know what's stamped on the cylinder.

The cylinder is being welded, re-machined & Nicosil replated, so i guess standard size will be required.

Who's doing the repair work for the cylinder?

He did tell me but i can't remember. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Apparently there's a couple of places fairly localish that most people/dealers around here use. He did try contacting Stan Stephens a number of times, but without joy.

Who do people on here usually use?

I've used Langcourt's a couple of times. Others go through Apex leisure, who use a third party. Be interesting to know...

Langcourt. That name rings a bell.

I just popped around to see him, but he was out. When i find out i'll let you know.

I see you're quite close to me. I live in Frome, but currently at work in Chippenham. Very Happy

Could be worse, could be from Calne!

There's another wilts resident on the board too. Maybe we should have a mini meet?

Sounds good Cool

My 18 won't be on the road for at least another few weeks, but always nice to know a few local people that share the interests & maybe a bit of knowledge Smile

Mine will be off the road until Spring I think! It's in lots of bits and I'm too damn busy to rebuild it now that winter is here...

We could always sit and look at it I guess... Rolling Eyes
