I am new to NSR's having owned one for only a few months - it's a MC28 SP model with Magtek wheels (and I fookin' love it!). I will need to replace the current Dunlop GPR70 tyres soon as they are quite worn. I expect to do a few track days next year, so I want the stickiest, softest (road legal) rubber I can get for the bike.
These days I do very minimal miles on bikes, probably only 1,000 miles/year or so. Presumably I should still get a least a full year based on this kind of useage.
I did also get some used spare types with the bike - Michelin Hi-Sports - but the guy who sold me the bike said they had a reputation for high-siding.
The GPR70's you've got warm up very quickly, provide decent feedback, are light and still have decent grip... They were the control tyre in the Asia 250 classes I believe, so good enough to race on...
The BT090's also fall into the above category.
If you want mental grip, then a set of D208/9GP's will turn to snot once up to temp and would be my sticky tyre of choice, although many people on this site get on with Pilot Races, Rennsports etc...

As far as my riding level - I am fairly experienced. I raced for 3 years or so with BEMSEE from 1999 - 2002. Did MZ250 racing in 1999 / 2000, which was interesting! Then raced Aprilia RS250 in the MRO challenge for a bit and generally got my arse kicked (I was never last though!) - bit too big a jump from MZ's methinks. Then I raced a CBR400 in 400SS, and went quite well. The started breeding with the wife and racing kinda slipped away...
I've only done a few track days in the last few years so a bit rusty but I think the stickier the better - I am well aware of the importance of warming tyres up properly - had a few incidents there
The bike has also had Maxton shock fitted and forks revalved, so I need to address this at some stage, as I am a few stone heavier than the guy who sold me the bike.
I do track days too and although im no racer i like to have the assurance my tyres will grip, and i have to say my tyre of choice has all ways been the 207/208 / gps, they are expensive, but the current set have done 5 trackdays and a few trips here and there and still have life left, I also recomend the reinsports but i havnet used them on an NSR yet. I have used BT90's on a NC30 and they too were great! if your only doing a few days a year and around a 1000 miles get the GP208's there about 230 quid a set but you can pick up good sets of ebay now and then for around 60 quid,
i would stick with the Dunlops either 207s or 208s i have used all three and i have found that the 090s seem to work much better on my 400 _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

207, 208, and i see max said 209, all the same diffrent incarnations, 209 being the latest and greatest, youll still get the 08 and 07 in a few places but if the 09 is out that wont be for very long...
VFR yeah very lardy BUT it impressed the sh*t outa me, it really dose what it says on the tin, That pic was with 020's on touring tyres.

So....it sounds like the D207 / D208 / D209 GP is the tyre to go for. Just to confirm - these are better then my current GPR70's? I was hoping to get the last bit of wear out of my GPR70's to help evaluate the next tyres, but won't get on track till next year now...so might just replace them anyway.
On the subject of the VFR800, they sure are a very capable bike - the engine is a peach, and they go right over for what is quite a heavy sports tourer. It just needed a lighter, sportier frame etc, but then I suppose you'd have a RC45.

I last ran 208GP's on a track day and they're perfect for our bikes I think... But I'm no Mick Doohan so what do I know!! (Schwantz maybe!)
If you want a bike that you can ride in all weather then I'd go for the 207gp if you can find them, as the 208/9gp's have a lot less tread, so really aimed at dry tracks... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
