Hi everyone, my next mission is to fully take my engine apart. I have a sneaking suspicion my crank seals are buggered, as the last owner had the bike sitting around for a number of years (explains the fact there is only 16,000 km on the clock). Do Honda still make these seals for the '16 or are they generic? Also, what would I be looking for if indeed the seals were faulty? I expect there would be gearbox oil in areas there shouldn't be...Thanks for the help. _________________ '87 MC16
LH seal is same as RS250NX5, so order from any Honda dealer and it should be easy to get. It's also used on NSR400
RH seal is very likely discontinued, but it'll be worth having a look around. I would suspect that the later mdel MC21/28 seal would work though as it's internal and outside diameters are the same. Only the thickness is different.
You need to do a leakdown test to check condition of seals. If they leak replace them, if they don't, then it'll be worth replacing them anyway 'cos if the motor's never been apart that means they've been in there for 18 years!
Well considering the transmission oil looked like chocolate milk when I drained it, I'll bet you're right about it never being taken apart. Thanks for the advice. _________________ '87 MC16
