Whilst im sorting my bike out ive fitted new sprokets and chain, I used a grinder to remove the old one and have now fitted the new chain! ive pressed on the link BUT i dont have a tool to rivet the links up! anybody have a idea how to do this? Iv seen the tools on ebay for £50 but its kinda lot of money for riveting a chain up? if needs must ill buy the tool but if any of you know if theres a seperate tool for this job could you be kind enough and point me in the right direction. Cheers
basically you have to flatten the rivet. You can do this with a chisel if you are handy
Make sure something is on the other side of the chain so you don't put lateral stress on it when doing so.
Or go to a bike shop and see if you can borrow the tool....they do that around here if they know you. _________________

I use two hammers. A gurt biggun behind the chain, and a smaller more accurate one to swing at it. Been doing it that way for years. If you do the rivitting near a sprocket, the chain will flex less, though be carefull not to whack the teeth off your sprocket! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I prefer a big hammer and a REALLY BIG hammer! Best have a big screwdriver to hand too, then you can fix anything! _________________ Andy.

That`s what I like to see, whack it with a big hammer!
I wouldn`t do it though, I bought the right tool cos I`m a big jessie!
A bike shop I knew used to do it this way all the time. They had a small bench vice they used to press the ends over with also. (Obviuosly it wasn`t bolted to a bench at the time)!
