Repsol paint scheme

Wed Feb 25, 2004 3:56 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys,
I have a MC21 with the 1999 paint scheme. I very much prefer the 1995 to 1998 paint scheme. I am now in the process of converting the colors to the earlier ones. The problem is I have never seen a older Repsol before. I now need to figure out the shade of blue/green. I figure the official paint code probably will not help since I don't think it can be deciphered here in the USA anyway. So I will settle with something close. I know Andy's NSR is way off, although I actually like that shade of blue. Being a big fan of King Doohan, I will try to make it as authentic as possible, at least the colors. So is that color green or blue? Greenish blue or bluish green? What is the closest color from some cars color? There is a 1992 Honda Accord SE that has some bluish green color. Is that close enough? I try to look at the Repsol logos but surprisingly they are all different shades of green. I live in San Francisco. Does anyone have a Repsol close by for my to check out the color?
Thanks,
Steve

I think I'll leave this one to you Charles!! ;-)

My Repsol was painted way way back, with the base colours completed just 2 days after Honda's official launch of the new 500! We only had the "world exclusive" pictures in Motor Cycle News to go by though, so that explains why the colours (and if you look closely, the cut-outs into the red section) are incorrect!

It was with some trepidation that I called the paint shop the day before I was due to collect it, "Er... what does it really look like with orange wheels?!" I asked! Luckily the importer put my mind at rest, and told me as soon as he'd got the bike back in the shop they'd sent off an MC28 because the colour scheme looked so striking!

Phew!

Andy.

PS. I'd say the MC28SP Repsol is a blue-ish green, but seeing Doohan's 500 at the bike show 3 years ago, his bike was definitely green!

Unusual Repsol scheme

Mon Aug 23, 2004 12:39 pm » Post: #3 » Download Post

Hi guys

I'm currently looking at buying a '91 CBR600FM in the Repsol colours but I've not been able to track down an image of the paint scheme anywhere on the web!

I've hunted through bikepics.com and done an image search on Google but nothing matches! Does anybody know of a site that shows the history of the Repsol colour schemes used or any other decent sources of bike pictures?

The scheme is as follows:

Wheels & lower section of bike in day-glo orange
Middle stripe, slightly off horizontal in white with the Repsol logo at front end
Top of bike in metallic green, like a deeper version of the British Racing Green

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated! If I do buy the bike I'll try to get a pic up here for you to see.

Thanks Very Happy
