Can a top end rebuild be done with the engine still mounted in the bike, or does it need to come out?
Edit: Let me rephrase, is it worth the hassle to remove the engine from the bike to do a top end rebuild? Or is it easier to just leave it in there and work on it? _________________ Jerry Lai

Leave the motor in...no need to take it out and create a bigger job than it should be. Its a bit trickey to get the top cylinder bolts out without the "special tool" bit with some tinkering and a variety of tools, you should be able to get it out. Next time I do a topend on the 28, I'll have the "special tool" _________________ 1994 NSR250SE

Leave it in the frame. You can do everything without removing it. You can even change the crankshaft if you can't be bothered to pull the engine out.

Jezza...keep the engine in. My rebuild turned into...
engine removal
hours of cleaning
new throttle,rc valve & clutch cables
new engine mounts
new water hoses
HRC jet kit
MC28 front end(complete)
MC28 rearshock
weeks waiting for parts from Japan.
Don't get me wrong, It should be sweet when it's back together & running, I hope. It won't make any magazine covers like some others but it's mine.
F@#kin awesome bike Frank. Just got my copy today.
Andy, I thought you were keeping the standard of grammar on this site to a high level
