my 2nd nsr ( well not 100% complete anyway trackday project) is in process of being made in to a custom instead
i need to decide on a new powerplant for the old girl, shes a MC18 i already have a lot planned as far as running gear/styling etc go, but am unsettled on what engine i should use...
im thinking of a big CC 2 or 4 stroker, summit like a honda dominator 650 or bigger, most likely a single cylinder engine.
any suggestions here? or even anyone got anything they want to get rid of thats suitable?
cheers _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Have you thought about the NS400R engine seen plenty of RG500 engines in RGV 250 frame but never seen this conversion done read once in motorcycle mechanic 100bhp is possible _________________ MC21 SP
yeah both the engine and the bike size are a little tooo small, but the second link is almost amusing _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

You can get an RG500 motor into an NSR chassis - its been done already but is a bit more work that most can deal with I hear.
100bhp at the wheel is relatively easy to get to as opposed to almost impossible with the NS400 motor, some bikes owned by 'enthusiastic' owners with a few quid spare each month see a reliable 110bhp before you start looking at big money to go further.
110bhp NSR, hmm, light, handles ok and looks good.
I bet the frame would die after a some serious though _________________ These aren't the droids you're looking for.
still fixed on the idea of a big CC single cylinder though, dont think im gonna be swayed of that idea _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Dominators are for gurls but the kick back from the kick starter can be freakin leathal. That is, most Dominators are so shagged that the eleccy start don't usually work.
I still think an RG500 to 575cc's would be a tasty option.. _________________ These aren't the droids you're looking for.
I used to race in supermono class so know a bit about big singles. First i had a honda ft500 engine in a tz250h chassis, wonderful bike, 3rd in series 1988, couple of lap records and many wins. You can get about 60 bhp out of these engines but they can be fragile. Mine were between 45 and 55 bhp. Also had a 600cc rotax in a tigraft chassis, also a lovely bike. You can tune these engines upto 80 bhp (depends on your wallet) also the chain is on the right hand side. Would be ok on mc18 but not 21 or 28 but would be nice in a rs250 chassis with singe sided swingarm?. Also had a susuki dr800 in a tigraft chassis, did'nt tune it too high. Was very quick and i could paddle start it! Proberly the best engine for your project would be a yamaha xt600/660/680. Very tuneable and easy to get parts for and still competetive in racing (have got a xt660 in a works mz (tigraft) chassis for sale £1200). Hope some of this may be of some use.
How about a TRX850 engine? Or an SV650 / 1000? _________________ MC21SP Plaything
