Recently bought an MC18, great bike, but its carburation is lumpy to say the least. The bike's been stood for a while so it's been treated to a new battery, plugs, fluids, a carb strip and intake rubbers, yet at times it feels as though it's being starved of fuel before picking up again. It normally does this at 9000rpm - not all the time, it will pull through to the redline, just sometimes, and it's pissing me off to say the least. When it running fine it flies, in every gear.
It's not seizing, but could it be the PGM control box? Any help would be appreciated coz it's driving me nuts.
My '28SP had been stood for a while when I bought it and for the first few miles it did something similar. It would reach somewhere between 7,000 and 9,000 rpm (can't remember exactly) and would then sometimes run badly / hesitate for a bit before taking off again cleanly. In my case I think it was sticky power valves due to lack of use. After a 20 miles or so it seemed to clear up itself and it has not happened again.
There's a lot of experienced NSR owners on here so I'm sure someone will offer some more informed advice shortly .
Hey Araispeed, Do understand that I am relatively new to NSR's myself so I'm no expert. Also my MC28 is a more recent 96 model with only 11,000 kms on the clock, so there are probably minimal carbon deposits etc. clogging up the power valves. I'm sure in my case it was just a case of lack of use though, as I've given it a decent run at least every month or so since I bought it and the hesitation problem has never come up again.
If your MC18 has a lot more miles, and it is a problem with the power valves (and not something else), then it may be that it needs more than a good run (possibly a proper clean) to get the power valves working properly.
