Thermostats

Mon Sep 13, 2004 8:38 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Does any one know if you can buy different thermostats for a NSR (MC28). With the stat in my engine runs at about 75degC with it out about 46degC. It runs best at 58-62degC but its hard to keep it in this range without constantly changing the tape over the radiator. I am considering an electric pump and controller but dont really want to go down this route. Any ideas?

Thanks

Nigel

Have you tested the stock thermostat? It sounds like it may be shot, i.e., is failing to open fully. If so, a new stocker should do the trick, I would think.

If you look close at yours somwhere on it it shoudl say at what temp it opens (its stamped into it) Better you test it tho first, Boil some water and sling it in. It shoudl open up a good 10mm if all is well. If not then like Jim said, tiem for a new one.

If it is ok different ones can be got, most common ones open at 80deg but many 2 stokes will open fully at 60 deg, You'll just have to find one with a lower opening temp than yours.
