NSR fork refinishing

Sun Apr 23, 2006 5:08 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

The forks on my 1995 MC28sp are in need of refinishing. What techniques or methods have you guys used to restore the finish to a factory look? Thanks

Do you mean the shiney chromed part of the fork lowers?

I'm asking about the lower sliders not the chromed stantions. The original finish looks to be a brushed finish. I don't want them polshed or painted, just back to original and then possibly clear coated with a matte clear to protect them. Most of the NSR's seem to have pitted discolored lowers and the refinishing must be fairly common, surprised nobody has chimed in with a technique.... Anyone...... Bueller....

I sanded and repainted (with regular silver engine paint from kragen) the fork lowers on my old NC30. I thought it looked pretty good....probably going to do it for my MC28

The difference being that the VFR forks were originally painted, not left as bare aluminium.

I think you'll get away with just using some fine wet and dry on them to be honest, though I can't speak from experience.

Frank (owner of the now famous Rolfo '21) is the man to ask how to restore the brushed finish.
