Magtek question

Wed Feb 11, 2004 9:17 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Has anyone noticed a significant improvement in the handling after changing from R/SE wheels to the Magtek`s? I would imagine the bike would turn in and chage dirrection faster, is it worth the change over for street use?

Mike,

Having owned, raced, and ridden both types of rims, I have not noticed a difference in the turn in with the Magteks.

I have held one of each type of rim at the same time, and the difference isn't that great. Of course even a pound is a pound of rotating mass, but I haven't noticed the bike feel any different from one to the other.

Since the Magtek isn't a Mag rim like say a Marvic, the weight savings isn't that huge. Honda had to make the rim last up to years of road use, in order to not bring a huge liability upon them.

Once you start talking about closed course race specific applications, the liability drops a great deal, and Honda can use lighter material, that has a lesser life span.

Charles,
Thanks for the info. Thats exactly what I thought. I have ridden both types of wheels, and could never feel the difference. My suspisions are now confermed that the Magteks are not worth all the hoopla! Very Happy

Per your post.....do magteks have a lifespan? I know you stated you noticed no difference. Do you mean just in the turn in ? I would think accel would be better if its 2 lbs per wheel. I'm curious before buying an old set. Thanks
