Finally got the bike home. I eventually got it to start on ether, but I wasn't happy with what I found on the front spark plug. I took the carbs off because they oviously weren't doing anything. When I took them apart they looked worse than any carb I have ever seen. I couldn't even get fuel to flow into them.I think the jets will need total replacement. This is also my clue that the engine needa to come apart for inspection and refurbish. Looks like it will be severl months before before I can ride. Too bad because I think I'm really going to like this bike. _________________ james

If you need any parts, contact me first. I have a small collection of stuff I would like to part with, and I am in WA State. _________________ Paul Herr

MY BIKE PICS
Congrats on the bike! I am a new NSR freak teaching English in Taiwan. A buddy of mine has a 150, so I decided to save up for the 250. These are almost impossible to get registered and plated in Taiwan, so I have to run it with a 150 plate and pull the whole "I dont speak Chinese" bit with police if pulled over
My bike was in a similar situation, needed new needles, clutch, piston and ring set. Also needed a new stator and basically all new wires. It was extremely difficult to get this done in Taiwan, but it just makes it that much sweeter to ride.
Question, is your bike titled and registered? I would like to buy one when I get back to the States.
Congrats on your new bike as well! I always thought Taiwan was more liberal with its laws for these bikes. I plan to register it as a "rebuild". Its sort of a program for vehicles that are make from scratch. But you have to show allot of receipts for parts and do a couple other things. Not all states still do this. If that doesn't work I'm going to make the VIN jump off a VTR250 and onto my frame. I hope you don't have any trouble with the police. I know that here most cops will never know the difference. _________________ james

Strip the carbs down, and put all the parts in a bowl of Coca Cola for a couple of hours. Don't leave in there overnight or it'll ruin the alloy, but a couple of hours will remove most stuff. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I've got the carbs in carb cleaner right now, but I will admit it doesn't taste as good as Coke. I almost have the engine out. The left side exhaust was filled with water and oily gunk. I think the PO must have had it parked outside. _________________ james
