meths and a cloth.... wot th funk?!

That's what it took to get a spark! Wiped the flywheel and pickups clean with meths and a cloth and voila; Hermit's 300 lives! It were my dearest father's suggestion which i actually thought was daft to start with as the parts in question don't actually touch, but what th hell, thought i. As you can all imagine amigos i was overjoyed to find myself eating my words when i touched a plug onto the head and turned the mighty motor over. A good strong spark on both plugs! I put some water in the rad and attached the tank and gave it a few kicks. It coughed and ran for a second a couple of times while i fumbled with the choke and throttle (as you do) but after very little time at all it started properly and actually ticked over!! seeing as i rebuilt this engine myself i am gobsmacked that it just settled to a calm and even tick over then revved freely without complaint when i blipped the throttle! Que massive, out of control grin and text messages to everyone and anyone. I have still to put the cast iron rotors on it and properly bleed the cbr929 calipers i've got up front. There are also a bunch of other little tasks to get through before i actually ride it for the first time. But after all the poking around the electrics tryin everything anyone could think of its so confusing that a wipe with meths made the difference? So a fine film of greasy crap insulated the flywheel and stopped it interacting with the pickups?! o.... k.....

Anyway, thanks to Etienne for letting me test my PGM on his bike and thanks to everyone who offered advice and/or suggestions during the build!!

Well done.

I`d have thought it would have been the pick ups or their connections shorting down to earth from the film of whatever it was.

Anyway, as long as it runs who cares!

Christ, that's one to stick in the memory banks.

Excellent news, well done Dad. Bet you were dreaming about finishing it last night weren't you? Laughing
