oil at exhaust pipes

Thu Jan 22, 2004 1:47 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello again.

One quick question? This might be a stupid one or it might have been posted before but here it goes...

I rode my nsr250 for about an hour and after riding I found some oil coming out of my exhaust pipe. Is this normal? I never had this before...

Pardon me for starting off with a stupid question.

Thanks.

There could be several reasons for this, the most common being:

1. Rich mixture
2. Oil injector pump out of adjustment
3. Dirty air filter element

It's common to see a little oil on the tips of the pipes, but usually means it's time for a service!

If the bike never really made it to full operating temperature, this can cause oil residue to form in the chambers too.

Has the bike been stood for a long time? Have there been any modifications since it was last ridden?

Andy.

It's extremely rare that a 2 stroke won't dribble from the exhausts. Unless the jetting is spot on, there'll always be 'spooge' (a very descriptive word someone came up with Wink )

Unless it's running from the pipes, I wouldn't worry too much...
