Un-equal 2-stroke oil in each cylinder

Sat Sep 23, 2006 12:24 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys,

I just want to ask what has happened to my mc18. I just had a top end rebuilt but when I run it again there seems to be more oil in the top cylinder than the bottom because to give sh*t loads of smoke. what should I do? is there an adjuster in the oil pump to control the level of oil in each cylinder? and how many turns must the pilot screw has, I have original pipes and jetting and air filter. please help guys.. thanks..

Nothing to do with oil, it's usually because one cylnder is jetted correctly so is burning all the mixture, and the other is too rich (or not sparking fully) and some of the mixture is not burning in the cylinder but getting very hot in the exhaust so appears as smoke.

What colour are the spark plugs?

Have a read through the tuning and workshop sections of the site, it contains loads of usefull information like this:

"Remove the spark plugs, and check the colour of their respective electrodes, noting which cylinder each plug came from. They should be a light tan colour if your settings are good. Too dark, or black, and it's rich, if the plugs are grey you are too lean, and if they are near white, you are dangerously lean!!"

Did you do the reading? All the info you need is there, and Andy put a lot of effort into it, so I'll refrain from repeating what's already available!

The oil pump feeds to both cylinders, and the only failures that can occur can only cause a reduction in the amount injected: Pump failure to both cylinders, or a blocked / split pipe to one. Either would cause siezure.

Having just had a top end rebuild, I discounted rings.
