my new(old) mc16

Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:47 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys i got a new mc 16 off ebay,as always these bikes are never the same as described although i managed to get £50 knocked off the price! When i got there the guy was trying to start it and said he had it going 5 mins earlier we did manage it eventually. when i got it home i found the mc18!! tank had a bit of rust rust in it no wonder it wouldnt run properly, honestly these people should be banned from owning anything mechanical. After working on it all sunday cleaning out carbs, tank, tightening up powervalve cables etc i got it running ok,although i have to slip the clutch a bit pulling away, more carb adjustments needed i think,i will do some more tinkering today!
So i need an mc16 petrol tank,i see there is one on ebay, will this one fit?
I see there are two different part nos for these in parts manual, does this just refer to colours as i notice a different frame no is mentioned.
Im trying to access the members workshop manual but it wont accept my password am i doing anything wrong?
Any essex/london nsr nuts on here?
thanks rob

Good on you for rescuing another NSR! I know zip about the MC16 so you'll have to wait until Andy or Matt come along I expect!

Is this your first two stroke?

i bought an mc16 last year which i still have ,top end knackered, uneconomical repair i'll now use it for spares for my new one although i sold my old tank to a guy in bristol, which i now need!! typical.
I flushed out old coolant today because it got a bit hot when i ran it rad was full to top when i checked(how fiddly is it to get rad cap off) and mc18!! expansion tank(as holes didnt line up with frame but was bodged up with araldite to fit!good greif,i cant believe the lengths some people will go to,to save a few quid)was full as well.
How do you bleed the system and how hot should they run?
Above rantings are all part and parcel of doing up an old bike, all part of the fun eh guys?
Cheers Rob
