Aus compliance issues, nsr 250 HELP!!

Fri Dec 01, 2006 8:58 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, this thread may only make sense to australian users but its worth a try. ive just bought my 92 mc21, i bought it interstate so i had to get it inspected before i could register it. Passed inspection ok apart from the fact the VIN only had 11 nunmbers when its supposed to have 17. This means i cannot get it registered which makes no sense because it was previously registered interstate. Transport said the only way to resolve the situation is to find the original import papers. Does anyone have any idea how i could do this, or any information on how many nsr's were imported into australia in 92/93. The current plate says somthing about "european thunder down under motorcycle tour" which makes me think the bike may have been to europe before coming to aus. Any ideas on how to get past this compliance plate problem? could i buy a frame that is already properly compliance and swap the plates or does the plate number match the frame number??? im confused at this point so you probably are to. Please any info on this would be greatly appreciated, im really desperate. Cheers [/code]

What do they do about older vehicles before the 17 number VIN started?

Well, the 17 vin number started in 1990, so any thing older than that is aloud to have 11 numbers but cause its a 92 model there sus about it. This is what i cant understand, why it had only 11 numbers in the first place?

...because Honda never exported the bike ooutof Japan. The NSR was a Japan only Model. Japan DMW probably did not 17 di requirment at the time so there was no need.

Back in the old days, at least in California, the engine block number was the VIN. You should see all the problems that causes now since very few older cars have the origional motor.

NSR imports is the only place that can bring them into the country, id start there, unless is a personal import

It should have a compliace plate on it that say's who complied the bike

well....... i know this isnt the place to advertise but it will be up for sale very shortly.. like in the next week or two... pm if **** interested. obviously the frame would only be any good for track use and couldnt be registerd unless you find away around the system or do it illegaly (what nsr owner would break the law) lol Twisted Evil
