Hi all, Ive got a 91 nsr250r which refuses to start. Bought the bike two months ago and had a three hundred mile trip home with no problems. Bikes been in a shed since, due to work, weather, ect. Anyway tried to start it today, petrol on, full choke, no choke, nothing. Took plug from front cylinder, getting petrol, checked for spark, seems ok. Everything back together, still nothing. Had to leave it as temper was rising. plugs are ngk-r br9ecm ?.
Drain the float bowls off. I guarantee it will work after you do that - Honda's don't like old fuel... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I had starting problems once.
I turned the bike upside-down, and when I put it back to the right way up it wouldn't start, so I left it for half an hour and it still wouldn't start. Eventually throttle full-open it started.
Must've been fuel issues, but seems like strange behaviour to me.

When the carb's are stripped, there's a "tube" that takes fuel from the float bowl to the choke, this cannot be removed but has a tiny hole at it's "top" end, make sure it's not blocked (fill with petrol and open choke), if it's blocked use brute force and ignorance to clean. You'll feel much better!

Thanks for the tip snagger. Havent been near the bike since. Was fitting upvc windows and doors all weekend. What a total b*** they were. My bike problems have got to be easier.
Run us through your starting technique. Sounds daft but there is a certain art to it... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Turn the petrol on. Choke about half way. Takes about ten kicks. If i touch the throttle at all it bogs down. Only been started twice from cold. When i took it home (300 miles) it started after two or three kicks whenever i stopped for fuel. Mind the engine was hot though. I use regular bp unleaded.
When you stop laughing at me being an idiot, tell us the correct way of doing things.
Donation in the post if it works(to the site of course).
Sounds to me like it might be a bit rich then. Only needs half choke from cold, and bogs with throttle...
Have you done a compression check? If the compression is low it's a bitch to start from cold. Once warm though, all the bits expand and the comp will rise and make it easier to start. _________________ MC21SP Plaything
