Flywheel question

Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:02 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys

My MC21 has an MC18 alternator with pickups. But i don't know if the flywheel is the original MC21, how can i tell?

Also i have found the MC21 alternator and pickups, In case my flywheel is MC18 can i use it with the MC21 alternator and pickups with mc18 Flywheel?

Thanks
James

not 100% sure but you can have a look at the on-line parts manual and compare part numbers

Thanks Fenton

It shows that MC18 is 31110-KV3-701 where as MC21 31110-KV3-813

Would that be the same? or the last 3 digits is just the serries of the Flywheel?

There are 2 types of '18 fly wheel. The'88 R2j used a larger fly wheel than the later '89 R5k and therefore uses a shorter pickup.

The r5k fly wheel though uses the same pick ups as the MC21 and the same dia flywheel but with different ign timming.

Thanks stephen

Therefore will consider finding an MC21 flywheel.

If i leave the mc18 flywheel, startor and pickups on the mc21 will it hurt the engine? is the timing more advance or less?

XXXXX-XXX-000 last three digits indicate various suppliers or improvements on the part. So i assume that the 2 parts MC18 MC21 flywheels are interchangeable. It looks like it is. BUT....

Can someone else confirm me this ? don't want to spend more money on flywheel i wont use.

The '89 MC18 fly wheel is slighty retarded compaired to the Mc21....

However the MC18 runs a shorter barrel and different head volume compaired to the '21 so I would say its safe to fit a '18 fly wheel on a '21 but not a '21 one to a '18 unless you know what your doing.
