fork question

Thu Feb 01, 2007 11:51 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I stripped my forks to change the oil, and now they're on the bike, they have alot of sag, I can turn the preload adjuster by hand. I've pulled the tops off again and as far as I can make out the preload adjuster has no contact with the spring...am I missing a part?

The spacer tube just sits on the fork top Confused that isn't right is it?

You`re missing the cupped/dished spring seat. A washer goes at each end of the spacer tube, then the dished seat goes over the top washer under the lock nut at the top of the damper rod.
This seat has a slot in it so you can slide it in place after the lock nut is tightened.
It`s a loose fit when the forks are disassembled, so it probably fell off at some point when you had them apart.
Look in the parts manual, part number 12 for the MC21 SP forks.

It seems mine have gone missing then, because they weren't in there in the first place Confused

Looks like a trip to the Honda dealer Rolling Eyes

I`ll have a look in the garage.
I`ve got two sets of stripped down R forks.
Should have some spare ones kicking about.
If I`ve got some I`ll send `em to you. You can give a donation to the site for them & keep Andy & Charles happy too!

Will let you know soon.

Cheers,

Roy.
