There is 1kg difference between a set of NSR magteks and a set of NSR enkei's

There is a much bigger difference between the NSR magteks and the RS magtek ones but the RS ones arn't so easy to fit into an NSR.

I weighed my rear Magtek at it was almost 4 lbs lighter than the alu wheel.

That looks like and RS wheel.

Are there any issues to think about when repainting magnesium wheels?

Oh yes! The bare wheels need to be coated to stop oxidisation BEFORE they are repainted. Even on the standard SP style Magteks, which have about as much Magnesium content as my multivitamins, you have to do this. I've seen a few Rothmans reps with bubbly orange wheels to know it's not done that often... Wink

Thanks maxim,i've heard stories about the longeviety of magnesium wheels, race use only etc and always found it strange to see 15 year old mc18 magteks still going strong Confused
Saying that though the one i've just got looks in really good condition despite being 15 years old Laughing

Myself and Andy could tell you some stories about MC18 and RS magteks which you wouldn't believe! Very Happy

They do hold up rather well though, Ive got a few sets down here which havn't been repainted and do look really good with alittle polish.

As Maxim said magnesium needs to be coated but if you have them blasted using the correct blast medium it should leave the coating intact. i painted my magteks and they did not need to be recoated but I used a very soft blasting medium which I think was nylon, it looks almost like talcum powder. Whatever you do dont get them done unless its by someone who knows what they are doing, sand blasting would probably eat them. I had an alloy engine case blasted at the same time as a steel frame and it was ugly!
Where abouts do you live in Essex? This lot might be worth a try; http://www.ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/index.html

I know they usally use Chromic acid anodising on mag aircraft parts but im not sure if thats what they use on Magteks. if my memory serves me I think mine had a similar finish.
What did they do to yours Maxim?
